Help System

The VE Online Help is accessed via the VE Help menu >> User Guides or else by clicking F1 in any project

VE Online Help is structured with 3 tabs on the Navigation pane; Menu, Index and Search. The Navigation pane can be resized to show more of the options or else to give more space for the current Help page you are reading.

Menu
The Menu tab gives a list of every page on the online help, these are sorted into a tree structure and organised so that whatever VE application you are using you can quickly get to the relevant area for the task you are currently working on, whether that is Model geometry (imports from BIM sources, working in ModelIT), Assigning data (Constructions, thermal templates etc) or running any of the range of analyses VE provides (such as Solar analysis, Thermal or Energy analysis or daylighting assessments).

Index
The Index tab gives some commonly accessed terms and keywords to aid users in finding the most commonly used parts of VE or operations most likely to be used when creating models and running analyses using VE.  Click on any topic to open the relevant page on the Online Help site.

A topic called Application User Guides is provided for users who are familiar with the traditional (PDF based) User Guides that were hosted on the IES website and structured per VE Application.

Search
The Search can be used to search for any keyword. The Search is simple and will return any page on the VE Online Help site that contains any of the terms searched for.

Click on any page in the Search results and the keyword found is highlighted

Users who find they are looking for a specific term or page may wish to also note that a complete index of all page topics is provided on the Online Help start page. F2/Find on this page can quickly return a desired result and can be faster than using Search in some instances.

The search function within the help website is basic, for more complex searches you can use the google site search, please find an example below
e.g. site:https://help.iesve.com/ve2018/ then enter your search string
