CostPlan Cost Information

It is recommended that when naming files the filename should refer to the particular project and the extension to the type of data file. It is worth noting the following file naming conventions:

Deft geometry information from ModelIT
*.idl
Cost data file
*.cst

These files are described in more detail.

Deft Data File (*.idl)
This file contains a description of the model to be processed by CostPlan. It contains information regarding the 3D geometry of the model and the construction details for each surface.

ModelIT creates the *.idl file. ModelIT is part of the ModelBuilder system.

Cost Data File (*.cst)
This file contains a list of the Cost categories, elements and parameters that are to be applied to generate the Outline Cost Plan.

The structure of the data is as follows:

Each Category is defined as follows:

Each Element is defined as follows:

Cost Data File Templates
CostPlan can be customised to provide any cost plan. CostPlan uses information from the model and requires cost model data to help predict the capital cost of a building. IES provide two categories for cost plan:

·       A whole building cost plan based upon the Royal Incorporation of Chartered Surveyors definition. This is called the QS model.
·       A cost plan model for building services engineers. This is called the BS model.

Both of these models require cost data representative of particular classifications of buildings e.g. offices, hospitals, theatres, etc. IES have provided a number of templates for both the Quantity Surveyor and Building Services applications. There are purely indicative and should be used as the starting point of any analysis.
