5. Creating and editing Weekly Profiles

The dialogue below appears when a new weekly profile is created, or a weekly profile is selected for editing by means of a double click or the Edit button. It displays the properties of a weekly profile and allows it to be edited.

Daily profiles may be assigned from either the system or project daily profile databases. The source profiles are listed on the right of the dialogue in the box headed Select. The list is controlled by the following buttons:
·        Database: Switches between the two databases:
o   System: A centrally stored database of daily profiles.
o   Project: Daily profiles in the project.
·        Units Type: Checkboxes must be ticked to list daily profiles expressed in particular unit types: if no list of daily profiles is visible, more boxes may need to be ticked.
o   Metric: Profiles expressed in metric units.
o   IP: Profiles expressed in inch pound units.
o   No units: Profiles expressed in no units (non-formula modulating profiles).
The attributes of the weekly profile are:
·        Profile Name: A description of the profile in words.
·        Categories: Allows a profile to be assigned to one or more categories (optional).
·        ID: A unique identifier assigned to the profile when it is created. The ID may be edited on creation of the profile, but not thereafter.
·        Modulating/Absolute: The type of profile chosen when the profile is created, before any daily profiles are assigned. If this is changed after daily profiles are assigned, it will revert to the default values for that profile type. A Modulating profile specifies a time-varying value in the range 0 - 1, and is used to modulate an input parameter or as a control switch. An absolute profile specifies a time-varying physical variable such as temperature. A weekly profile may only reference daily profiles of the same type.

Daily profile table: A weekly profile is defined as a series of eight daily profiles, one for each day of the week, plus one to be used whenever a holiday is in effect. Selecting a daily profile in this table and clicking the Daily Profile button displays its attributes, but they may not be edited here. To assign the daily profile for a particular weekday, first untick all of the checkboxes, then click on the row of the table corresponding to the weekday, then select one of the daily profiles from the list appearing on the right of the dialogue, using a double-click. This will be assigned to the selected weekday. Alternately, the check boxes determine to which days the daily profile will be assigned. They have to be ticked first before selecting the daily profile:
·        Check boxes:
o   Same profile for each day: used to assign daily profiles to all days including holidays and weekend.
o   Same profile for each weekday: used to assign daily profiles to weekdays only (no weekend or holiday)
o   Same profile for each weekend day: used to assign daily profiles to all weekend days.
o   Same profile for each holiday: used to assign daily profiles to all holidays
Buttons provide the following functions:
·        Daily profile: displays the attributes of the selected daily profile.
·        Save: closes the dialogue and saves any edits.
·        Cancel: closes the dialogue and discards any edits.
·        Help: Accesses ApPro online help.

The last four daily profiles (Heating-Rm, Cooling-Rm, Heating-Sys and Cooling-Sys) can be used if required, to select the plant operational profile and design day used for heating/cooling load analysis in other IES tools such as CIBSELoads, ASHRAELoads and ApacheHVAC. The first two are for profiles used in room load calculations and the other two for system loads calculations.
