12. Formula Profiles

In a formula profile the profile value is not specified numerically, but instead defined as a mathematical function of weather and/or simulation variables.
Formula profiles are used by: ApacheSim, ApacheHVAC and MacroFlo. They may be used in both modulating and absolute profiles. They are not used by ApacheCalc or ASHRAELoads, which will set their values to 0 at all times.

A formula may be typed directly into a row of the Daily Profile table in place of a numerical value. In the case of modulating profiles, the software provides some assistance with this task: click on the Formula button to activate the Formula Profile Creation dialogue that creates a formula automatically from control conditions:
To create a formula, use the drop-down boxes to select variables, or select <numerical value> and then type into the drop-down box to enter a number. If required, a bandwidth can be applied to each line of control conditions. The control conditions are interpreted by reading along the dialogue from left to right. Multiple control conditions can be set by selecting AND/OR from the drop-down box to activate additional rows of conditions. This utility is best described using examples.
