Additional Lighting Controls

Section 4.2.2.2 states:

Bathrooms in guest rooms of commercial temporary lodgings shall have a control device installed that automatically extinguishes the bathroom lighting, except for night lighting not exceeding 5 W, within 60 minutes of being unoccupied.

Section 4.2.2.3 states:

Supplemental task lighting, including permanently installed undershelf or undercabinet lighting, shall have a control device that is

A. integral to the luminaires, or

B. Readily accessible and located so that the occupant can see the controlled lighting.

Guest rooms in commercial temporary lodgings shall have one or more control devices at the entrance door that collectively control all permanently installed luminaires, except those in the bathroom(s).

Hotel suites shall have control devices meeting the requirements of Sentence 5 (directly above)

A. at the entrance to each room, or

B. at the primary entrance to the suite.

The following lighting applications shall have separate control devices:

A. display or accent lighting,

B. lighting in cases used for display purposes,

C. lighting for non-visual applications, such as plant growth and food warming, and

D. lighting equipment that is for sale or for demonstrations in lighting education.

These requirements can be broken down into two groups:

Those that require automatic switching
Those that require separate manual switching

Automatic Switching

This covers the following types

Guest Bathrooms (60 minutes)

These are automatically assigned to the reference model by the VE.

Separate Manual Switching

The following lighting types need to be controlled separately (manually switched):

Task Lighting
Guest Rooms
Hotel Suites
Display/Accent Lighting
Case Lighting
Non-Visual Lighting
Demonstration Lighting

If these lighting types are contained in the proposed model they also need to be manually included in the reference model and the following steps should be followed by the user:

Once the reference model has been generated, enter the profiles database (make sure the VE is in the ‘Reference’ view).
Create the necessary profiles to represent the additional manually switched lighting types as described above.
Create the necessary lighting gains and assign the profiles.
Assign to the relevant baseline zones.
