Import Glazing Assemblies from Library
If using this approach, a user can import representative glazing assemblies from the inbuilt database within the virtual environment.
When selected, the “Glazed” tab under the library construction database opens by default as shown below. This lists the various glazing constructions in the database. The user has the option to view the details of a construction or copy a selected construction into the project. On picking a desired construction and copying, the construction becomes available to the user to assign to a window.
No edits can be made to a construction assembly from within the Library construction database. Edits can only be made after copying an assembly from the database into the project.
Once imported, a user has some freedom in how to meet the required SHGC / U values. The SHGC and U-values are derived under the ASHRAE ‘Performance’ method an can be modified by changing the thermal properties as highlighted above
Once an assembly is imported, a user is additionally required to identify other fenestration characteristics
- Visible light normal transmittance (in Surfaces Tab)
- Frame tab > Frame type
- Shading Device tab > Local & External shade (both or neither) – see sections below
- Regulations tab > all items.
The inputs in the Regulations tab are highlighted above. The Inputs include:
- Type:Select the fenestration type. Options are Vertical fenestration and Skylight.
- Assm. Context:Select whether the fenestration product is Manufactured, Site Built or Field Fabricated.
- Cert. Method:Select whether the fenestration construction represents an actual National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC)-rated product (i.e., uses Centre of Glass values via the Non-residential Appendix 6 [NA-6] equation method), or is based on T-24 Default Assumptions.
- Product Type:Select whether the fenestration product is for a Fixed window, Operable window, Curtain wall or Glazed door.
- Fenestration Uses Dynamic Glazing (checkbox):Indicates whether the fenestration construction is used for dynamic glazing. This is used for reporting purposes only.
- Credit for Shading?(check box): Select to indicate if any fenestration in the building is taking compliance credit for shading (modelled as overhangs/fins). This input is for reporting purposes only and does not result in a credit by checking the box.
- Clerestory?(check box): Select to indicate if the fenestration clerestory
- If Type of Skylight is selected, the user is also asked to identify the Skylight type.
