The user is provided with a number of options to assist in entering proposed construction assembly data appropriate to the construction type (continuous insulation, frame, curtain wall etc.) so that thermal bridging is properly accounted for (as B 3.1.1.7).
For continuous insulation and frame constructionassemblies the NECB 2020 Navigator entries facilitate assembly data entry via the VE’s construction tool or the construction tools composite layer / wizard options.
When KivaTM is included in a construction definition it should be noted that, as per the general rule, the proposed constructions are copied & edited for the reference building and this includes any reference to KivaTM .

VE’s construction tools composite layer: isothermal planes & parallel path:
For more complex construction assemblies, such as metal & glass curtain walling, the user should use laboratory testing or third party 3D computer analysis (such as LBNL Window) to determine overall transmittance which would then be entered via the VE’s construction tools.
