Schedule L1(a) and section 4 imposes constraints on U-values and other aspects of building and system performance.
Limiting fabric standards (U-values) for fabric elements are stated (table 4.1). The VE-SBEM software applies checks for compliance with this requirement before performing the actual and notional building simulations.
Limiting solar gains for residential elements (4.16) is covered by Approved Doc O; a separate view is provided for this purpose, see the separate Overheating User Guide.
Limiting solar gains for non-residential elements (4.17, 4.18) seeks to limit the solar gains to spaces during the summer period with the aim of:
· Reducing the need of air-conditioning; or
· Reducing the installed capacity of any air-conditioning system that is installed.
The VE-SBEM software applies checks to limit the solar gains.
