1.2.3 Limiting heat gains and losses

Schedule 1(a) and section 4 imposes constraints on U-values and other aspects of building and system performance.
 
Limiting fabric standards (U-values) for fabric elements are stated (table 4.1). The software applies checks for compliance with this requirement before performing the actual and notional building simulations.
 
Limiting solar gains for residential elements (4.16) is covered by Approved Doc O; a separate view is provided for this purpose, see the separate Overheating User Guide.
 
Limiting solar gains for non-residential elements (4.17, 4.18) seeks to limit the solar gains to spaces during the summer period with the aim of:
 
·         Reducing the need of air-conditioning; or
·         Reducing the installed capacity of any air-conditioning system that is installed.
 
Compliance with limiting the solar gains is provided in the software in DSM compliance mode. A test run is also provided via a simulation option.
