Section 6 requires certain attributes to be entered for constructions in addition to the data required for other thermal calculations. This data is entered in the constructions database program APcdb. The additional fields are (broken down by construction category):
Glazing
Type of frame
Indicate whether the frame is a) metal or b) wood or PVC. This determines the required glazing/door U-values for the Elemental Method in Table 1 to J3.2 or Table 1 to J8.3.
Is this a display window?
Tick this box if the window is a display window (applies to non-dwellings only). Such windows are exempt from the percentage area requirements stipulated in the Table to J8.4.
Glazing type (dwellings)
The SAP procedure which forms part of the Carbon Index Method for dwellings has its own classification system for glazing types, as set out in SAP Table 6. Glazing types used in SAP analyses must have the appropriate glazing type set.
% sky blocked (dwellings)
The SAP procedure requires the degree of overshading to be specified for each window. Select an appropriate option from the list. In accordance with the SAP method, rooflights are automatically set to ‘< 20% Very little’.
Doors
Door type
Indicate whether the door is a) a personnel door, b) a vehicle access or similar large door, or c) a wall or roof element that is not to be treated as a door for the purposes of Section 6. For non-dwellings, doors of type b) form a separate category in Table 1 to 8.3. Door type c) is provided to allow door drawing facilities in ModelIT to be used to create wall or roof elements.
