The battery operation is controlled by one of three selectable control strategies: basic, time of use and advanced. There is a detailed description of the control strategies here:
The basic and time of use strategies are generic, but the advanced DR control strategy utilises time dependent valuation (TDV) data files. TDV files are provided for California only. TDV is a metric meant to incorporate the societal and environmental impacts into the cost of energy during a given hour of the year. This includes higher greenhouse gas emission rates and actual cost of electricity from peak plants during high-energy demand on the hottest days of the year.
